Dr. Ambedkar Studies Centre

The Dr.Ambedkar Studies Centre was established on August 2010. The Centre conducted the following activities in the A.Y 2020-21:
26TH November, 2020- Constitution Day
We at B.K.Birla College aim to inculcate constitutional ideals and values amongst our students. From past many years, we are celebrating Constitution Day on 26th November by organizing a “Samvidhan Abhivadan Webinar to pay our respect to the Constitution. The Webinar was titled as “Relevance of Indian Constitution and Importance of Fundamental Duties” was conducted on 26th November,2020.

In this Webinar, Dr.Rajesh Kharat, Dean,Faculty of Humanities, University of Mumbai was invited as the Chief Guest and Shri.Paresh Kathe, Training In-Charge, Maharashtra Andhashraddha Nirmulan Samiti (ANIS) were invited as Guest Speaker in the Webinar.

In this Webinar, our T.Y.B.A student Ms.Dhanashree Hire recited the Preamble of the Indian Constitution and also recited the pledge.

The Webinar started with the introduction by Mrs.Priti Sawale. Prin.Dr.Avinash Patil in his welcome address motivated the students to develop constitutional values in life. Senior Vice-Principal Dr.Swapna Samel also guided the students to follow our fundamental duties.

Dr.Rajesh Kharat analyzed the constitutional system in India and discussed about the emergence of populist culture and populist ideology which poses a serious threat to the spirit of the Indian constitution. Shr.Paresh Kathe took a review of the basic features of Indian Constitution and focused on the importance of following the fundamental duties. This was followed by the concluding remarks of Hon’rable Director, Dr.Naresh Chandra who advised the students to develop a constitutional way of life. The formal vote of thanks were proposed by Mrs.Priti Sawale.
6th December - Abhivadan Programme
To pay our tribute to Bharat Ratna Dr.Babasaheb Ambedkar, the Centre organized a Webinar on “Dimensions of Ambedkarism” on the eve of 64th Death Anniversary of Dr.Ambedkar on 6th Dec,2020. Dr.Sandesh Wagh,Professor and Head, Dept.of History, Univefrsity of Mumbai was invited as the Chief Guest and Resource Person for the Webinar. The programme was streamed live on Facebook of the College.

The Webinar started with the introduction of the programme by Priti Sawale and Prin. Dr.Avinash Patil formally welcomed the Chief Guest, Dr.Sandesh Wagh. In his speech, Dr.Avinash Patil said that there is a need of the hour to follow the ideals of Dr.Babasaheb Ambedkar. Senior Vice -Principal Dr.Swapna Samel motivated the students and faculty members attending the Webinar. Dr.Sandesh Wagh through his wonderful presentation talked in depth about different dimensions of Dr.Ambedkar’s thoughts and movement. A broad analysis of constitution, democratic, social and political dimensions of thoughts of Dr.Ambedkar was taken. This was followed by the concluding remarks by Hon’ble Directore Dr.Naresh Chandra. Dr.Naresh Chandra motivated the students by asking them to follow the foot prints of great Leaders like Dr.Babasaheb Ambedkar.The formal vote of thanks were given by Mrs.Priti Sawale.
14th,15th and 16th April,2021 JAYANTI PROGRAMME
The Dr.Ambedkar Studies Centre along with the Dept.of Political Science, Dept.of History and Social Sciences Association, organized Two Webinars and Research Paper Presentation Competition on the eve of 130th Birth Anniversary of The Pioneer of The Indian Constitution, Mahamanav, Bharat Ratna Dr Bhimrao Ramaji Ambedkar on 14th, 15th , and 16th of April 2021.

On 14th April,National Level Webinar titled “Revisiting the Mahamanav Vishwaratna Dr.Babasaheb Ambedkar's Social, Intellectual and Economic Thoughts to combat Irrationalism during Disasters” was organized at 2pm on digital platform of Microsoft Teams. The Webinar started with the introduction of the Programme by Mrs.Priti Sawale,Head, Dept.of Political Science and Director,Dr.Ambedkar Studies Centre. Dr.Swapna Samel,Senior Vice-Principal and Head, Dept.of History welcomed Director,Dr.Naresh Chandra, our esteemed Chief Guest and all the Faculty Members and the students attending the Programme. Dr.Swapna Samel motivated the students by explaining the importance of implementing thoughts of Dr.Ambedkar in real life and learning lessons of developing an ideal life from the works of Dr.Ambedkar. Dr.Megha Devle,Asstt.Professor, Dept.of Political Science and Chairperson, Social Sciences Association introduced the Chief Guest Dr.Sangeeta Pawar, Professor of Commerce & Management, as well as Senate Member, University of Mumbai. Dr.Sangeeta Pawar highlighted the relevance of Dr Ambedkar’s Thoughts in dispensing Justice to the poorest of the poor and establishing an egalitarian society. She took an in-depth review of the social, intellectual and economic thoughts of Dr.Ambedkar and how Dr.Ambedkar, a visionary leader gave solutions to the government to deal with various disasters. Honourable Director,Dr.Naresh Chandra gave his concluding remarks through his enlightening words about the Life and Mission of Dr.Ambedkar. The formal vote of thanks were given by Dr.Megha Devle.

On 15th April, 2021, National Webinar titled, ‘Dr. Ambedkar’s Thoughts on Nation Building’ was organized on Thursday, at 2pm on digital platform of Microsoft Teams. The Webinar started with the introduction of the Programme by Mrs.Priti Sawale,Head, Dept. of Political Science and Director,Dr.Ambedkar Studies Centre. Dr.Swapna Samel, Senior Vice- Principal and Head, Dept. of History welcomed Director, Dr.Naresh Chandra, our esteemed Chief Guest and all the Faculty Members and the students attending the Programme. Dr.Swapna Samel motivated about the importance of developing values like rights and social justice . Dr.Megha Devle,Asstt.Professor, Dept.of Political Science and Chairperson, Social Sciences Association introduced the Chief Guest. The Chief Guest Dr Kishor Gaikwad, emphasized on the above topic by adhering to the juridical nationalistic principles of Dr Ambedkar and its impact on the Indian Society and Indian Diaspora all over the world. Hon’ble Director,Dr.Naresh Chandra gave his concluding remarks by motivating the students to develop holistic thinking and add values to life by leaning from the lives of Great Leaders like Dr.Ambedkar. The formal vote of thanks were given by Dr.Megha Devle. More than 250 participants attended the above webinars.

‘The Inter-Collegiate Students’ Research Paper Presentation Competition’ on the topic ‘Life and Thoughts of Dr Babasaheb Ambedkar’ was organized on Thursday, the 16th April, 2021 at 11am on digital platform of Microsoft Teams. Students of Undergraduate and Post Graduate level participated in the completion from B. K. Birla College and Colleges across Mumbai. The word limit for the same was 1000 words and student were given the liberty to write and present their Research either in English, Hindi or Marathi language. The program achieved a grand success by active students’ participation, with winners being students of B K Birla College and other colleges of both under Graduate and post Graduate level.

On 15th April, National Webinar was organized and Dr.Kishore Gaikwad, Professor & Head, Dept. of History was invited as the Chief Guest.

On 16th April, 2021, Inter-Collegiate Research Paper Presentation Competition was organized.
