B. K. Birla College (Empowered Autonomous Status), Kalyan is a distinguished multi-faculty premier institution of Higher Education that has been instrumental in imparting knowledge and fostering holistic growth since its inception in 1972, founded by Kalyan Citizens’ Education Society with the blessings of Pujya Shri B. K. Birla ji and Pujya Smt. Sarala ji Birla.

The College is affiliated to the University of Mumbai (UoM) with student strength of over 8,700+ students. The College currently offers 34 UG, 33 PG and 09 Ph.D. programs which is combination of conventional and need based innovative programmes.

The College has been granted ‘Autonomous Status’ by University Grants Commission (UGC), New Delhi and University of Mumbai from the A. Y. 2018-19.

The College has been granted ‘Empowered Autonomous Status’ by University of Mumbai from the A. Y. 2023-24.
Under the Autonomous Status, the College has introduced need-based job oriented programmes like M.Sc. Finance, M.Sc. Data Science and Big Data Analytics, M.Sc. Artificial Intelligence, M.Sc. Chemistry (Analytical Chemistry), M.Sc. Mathematics (Applied Mathematics), M.Sc. Microbiology (Industrial Microbiology), M.Sc. Industrial Biotechnology, M.Sc. Food Science and Nutraceuticals, Five Year Integrated Course of M.Sc. in Biotechnology, M. Sc. I.T. (Cloud Computing), M.Sc. in Sports Management, M. Sc. in Event Management & PR, M.Com. (Business Management), Bachelor of Computer Applications (BCA), BMS (Hons.) in Sports Management, BMS (Hons.) in Event Management & PR, B.Sc. (Hons.) in Interior Design and B.Sc. (Hons.) in Integrative Nutrition & Dietetics.
The College has also introduced Four B.VOC. Programmes like
  • 1) B.VOC. Cyber Security and Forensics,
  • 2) B.VOC. Medical Laboratory Technology,
  • 3) B.VOC. Business Management and Entrepreneurial Development and
  • 4) B.VOC. Financial Market and Trading Operations under Skill based programmes [National Skills Qualifications Framework (NSQF)] of University Grants Commission (UGC), New Delhi. The College also conducts PG Diploma in Bio-nanotechnology (sanctioned by UGC, New Delhi), PG Diploma in Global Education and Advanced Diploma in Medical Laboratory Technology (A-DMLT) under MSBTE.
Research is an integral part of teaching. B. K. Birla College believes in exposing students to the cutting-edge research. Presently 24 faculty members are Ph.D. Guides. Many faculty members have received funding from various agencies to complete Major and Minor Research Projects. The total number of publications in last five years are 113 in UGC Care and Peer Reviewed Journals. Current era is of IPR. The faculty members from the College have contributed for 47 Patents (30 granted and 17 Published).
The College has a spacious eco-friendly campus which is spread over 20 acres of land (including B. K. Birla Public School) in the prime location of Kalyan city. Starting with only one building in 1972 college has witnessed rigorous growth in infrastructural facility. Currently, the college has 2,14,887 sq. ft. of built-up area available including 72 classrooms with ICT facility, with 50% being smart classrooms and one 3D studio. New Building with an area of 55,000 sq. ft. has been added recently from 19th October, 2022 to provide best of the facility to the Science Departments.
The College has taken several initiatives towards a green campus including the facilities of Sewage Treatment Plant (STP) and Effluent Treatment Plant (ETP). The college has a huge Biodiversity in the form of Flora and Fauna in the Campus. The College also focuses on use of energy saving devices, minimizing waste, Rainwater harvesting (4 Units), etc. and creating awareness about plastic-free campus. The College has Solar Power system [160 kWp Solar PV system with net meter (Main Building), 36 kWp Solar PV system with net meter (I.T. Building), 1 kWp Solar PV system with battery backup (Library Building) and 3 kWp Solar PV system with battery backup (Canteen Building)]
B. K. Birla College aims at academic excellence and helping the students reach their full potential by designing an effective and evolving new-age education system. The curriculum offered by the college has been meticulously designed to involve, inspire and inculcate students with the necessary skills to flourish in the dynamic world. BKBCK is committed to fostering a dynamic teaching and learning environment that not only imparts knowledge but also nurtures critical thinking, creativity, and personal growth. The institution’s Teaching, Learning, and Evaluation Policy shall stand as a testament to dedication to educational excellence, innovation, and the holistic development of students. Our examination results stand as a testimony to the continuously improving academic standards of the institute. Apart from academics, our students have also represented the college at National and International Level and brought laurels in sports. To enhance the proficiency of the students, the college has introduced numerous skill-based certificate courses. The college aims to enhance students abilities in English language proficiency, critical thinking, reflection, ethical behavior, and informed decision-making, preparing them for life and work challenges
The College celebrated its Golden Jubilee Year from 17th June, 2021 to 16th June, 2022. On this occasion, a Postal Stamp was released with the College logo and photo of Pujya Shri B. K. Birla ji by the Department of Posts, Government of India, at the hands of Shri Bhagat Singh ji Koshyari, Hon’ble Governor of Maharashtra State and Chancellor of all the Universities in Maharashtra State and Padma Bhushan Smt. Rajashree ji Birla, our Chief Patron.
We are also privileged to have Shri O. R. Chitlange, Chief Executive Officer, Grasim Industries Ltd. (VFY- Fashion Yarn Business), Mumbai as the Chairman of our Governing Council at B. K. Birla College. He has been a guiding force, motivating all of us to progress by leaps and bounds towards achieving greater heights of excellence. I extend my heartfelt thanks to the esteemed members of the management for their unconditional support and constant guidance.
