Women Studies Centre

UGC Sponsored Women’s Studies Centre, established in 2011, conducts activities throughout the academic year keeping in mind the objective: to be a catalyst for active promotion of women’s learning through sustained engagements, superior understanding of needs and knowledge sharing with a feminist perspective. Every year, Women’s Studies Centre jointly with Women Development Cell, organizes various workshops, seminars, certificate courses, lectures aimed at concrete skill development and empowerment of girl students.

With more than 60% of our student body being girls, B.K. Birla College sees a lot of first generation learners. Hence, most activities are aimed at increasing exposure and putting them on the path towards development.

The Centre conducts activities like The Leadership Programme that encourages the girl students to take an active role in leading social surveys on issues like Breast Cancer, Save Our Earth, Child Labour, etc. In order to encourage student participation, we also organise activities like Movie Festival followed by debate and Discussion on Current Issues and Women’s Issues.
